Managing a Rat Empire

This week I want to take the time to talk about where D20 Critters is and where I want to take it. To show my vision for that I believe can be accomplished.

Currently, I am managing 105 (10 of them are temporarily out of commission) rodent colonies across the 3 species I breed. We are currently working on a physical expansion to enable us to move our operation to a larger space which will allow for us to, at a minimum, triple the number of colonies we have. This new facility will also allow for better equipment, more streamlined processes and defense against escapees and water line chews (which have been our bane recently). This year, we have been focusing on growth and expansion, while battling a very intelligent escaped rat who single handedly destroyed over 20 colonies by chewing water lines. This has resulted in a significant drop in production and has caused shortages across our most popular sizes. The good news is the escapee (who we dubbed Hydrognaw) was eventually captured and colonies are being rebuilt.

We launched our website and online ordering system, which appears to be working well. This will hopefully assist in streamlining some of the workflow and adding to customer convenience. I know change can be difficult, but this is a necessary step for continued success.

In the coming weeks you will likely notice a change in our social media presence. We are currently working establishing a weekly content cadence which will hopefully increase engagement and promote more traffic to our sites. We will be attempting to layer in some humor while delivering useful information as well. Please stay tuned to our socials for that. The goal is to have content start rolling out on Monday, August 4. Once everything is going there should be content on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday.

As far as products go. We are planning on expanding into rabbits once we can get a producing colony, I anticipate this to be a smaller part of the business as demand is likely to be low, so we will be looking into other ways to make rabbit products (dog/cat food, chews, etc.), We have already purchased our started flock of quail, hopefully soon that will be another product we will offer.

Alot of things going on around here and we are just getting started, we have a lot of ideas and things will changing and growing this year, so stay tuned and buckle up for the ride!
